A circuit that keeps tripping, a socket that stopped working, lights that flicker for no obvious reason. These are the calls I get most often, and in most cases the fault is found and fixed within the first visit. In 25 years of fault finding across Medway and North Kent I have seen everything from a loose connection behind a socket to wiring that had been interfered with during a kitchen installation by a builder who should not have been near the electrics. The diagnostic process is the same regardless: systematic, methodical, and honest about what is causing the problem.
I am George, I run Eru Electrics Ltd, NICEIC registered and a Which? Trusted Trader with over 200 verified reviews. My fault finding fee is fixed and transparent upfront.
I charge £90+VAT for the first hour. If the fault takes longer to trace, each additional 30 minutes is £45+VAT. In most domestic properties the fault is identified well within the first hour. Once the fault is found I will tell you exactly what it is and what it will cost to fix. Minor repairs are usually carried out on the same visit. If the repair is more involved, I will quote it as a separate fixed price job.
• RCD or MCB that keeps tripping. Usually caused by a faulty appliance, a deteriorating connection, or moisture getting into an outdoor socket or garden circuit.
• Dead sockets or lights on one circuit. Often a blown fuse, a tripped breaker, or a loose connection. Can also indicate a wiring fault on older installations.
• Flickering lights. Frequently a loose connection at the light fitting or the switch, though on older installations it can indicate a deteriorating neutral.
• Burning smell or warm socket. These need treating as urgent. A warm or discoloured socket face plate usually indicates a loose or overloaded connection behind the plate.
Fault finding starts at £90+VAT for the first hour, then £45+VAT per additional 30 minute block. Where a fault requires a larger repair, that is quoted as a standalone fixed price job rather than added to the diagnostic bill.
How much does fault finding cost?
The first hour is £90+VAT. Each additional 30 minutes is £45+VAT. In most domestic properties the fault is identified within the first hour. Any repair work beyond the diagnosis is quoted separately.
Will you fix the fault on the same visit?
Minor repairs are carried out on the same visit in most cases. If the fault requires more substantial work I will give you a fixed quote for that as a separate job.
My RCD keeps tripping. What is causing it?
The most common causes are a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor socket or garden circuit, or a deteriorating connection. I will test each circuit and appliance in sequence to isolate the cause.
A socket feels warm. Is that dangerous?
Yes, treat it as urgent. A warm socket face plate usually means there is a loose or overloaded connection behind it. Switch off the circuit at the consumer unit and call me.
Do you carry out the repairs yourself or just diagnose?
Both. I find the fault, tell you what it will cost to fix, and carry out the repair once you have agreed the price.
Do you cover Rainham, Wigmore, and the surrounding area?
Yes. I cover Rainham, Wigmore, Hempstead, and the wider Medway area. Call to confirm your postcode.
If you have got an electrical fault you cannot get to the bottom of, give me a call. I will tell you the diagnostic fee upfront, come out and find the problem, and give you a straight answer on what it will cost to fix. No hidden charges, no guesswork.
