We were called to a detached house in Hoo where the owner wanted to power a garden room they had recently had built. The building was about fifteen metres from the house, which meant a properly sized armoured cable buried to the correct depth, its own consumer unit inside the outbuilding, and RCD protection throughout. Can you run power to a garden room or outbuilding?

Yes, and it needs to be done properly correct cable rating for the distance, buried at the right depth, with its own RCD protection in the outbuilding. We design it for what you are actually going to use the space for.

I have inherited some DIY electrical work with my property. Is that a problem?

It can be. DIY wiring is not always unsafe but it is often not compliant and may not be correctly protected. An assessment will tell you what is there and what, if anything, needs addressing.
