What We Install and Why It Matters

We only install wired HikVision ColorVu systems. ColorVu cameras produce full colour images even at night, which makes a significant difference to the quality of footage compared to the standard black and white infrared images most cheaper cameras produce. If something happens at 2am, colour footage is far more useful for identification than a grainy greyscale image.

Everything is wired rather than wireless. Wired systems are more reliable, not dependent on battery life or wifi signal strength, and far harder to interfere with. Once the cable is in the wall it stays there, and the system works consistently without anyone needing to think about it.

Solar powered wireless cameras from online retailers are the most common alternative we see. The appeal is obvious because they're cheap to buy and there's no installation cost. In practice they're less reliable, the image quality is lower, and the footage is often not good enough to be useful if you actually need it.

Why wired rather than wireless or solar?

Wired systems are more reliable because they don't depend on wifi signal strength or battery charge. They're also harder to interfere with. For a system you're relying on for security, consistent performance matters more than easy installation, which is why we don't fit wireless or solar powered cameras.

What makes HikVision ColorVu different from cheaper cameras?

ColorVu cameras produce full colour images in low light and at night, rather than the black and white infrared images most budget cameras produce.
