Electric Shower Installation in Snodland, Kings Hill & Larkfield. Replacement or New Install, Fixed Price.

Electric shower installations split into two very different jobs. A like for like replacement, where the existing shower unit is failing and needs swapping for a new one on the existing circuit, is a straightforward day's work. A brand new electric shower installation into a bathroom that currently has no electric shower involves running a new dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, which is a more involved job. In 25 years of working in domestic properties across this part of Kent I have done both hundreds of times, and the starting point is always the same: understanding which job it actually is before we price anything.

I am George, I run Eru Electrics Ltd, NICEIC registered and a Which? Trusted Trader with over 200 verified reviews.

Replacement Versus New Install

A replacement electric shower uses the existing circuit and consumer unit connection. The old unit comes off the wall, the new one goes on, and the existing cable is checked and reused if it is adequate for the new shower's rating. A brand new electric shower installation means running a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit to the bathroom. That involves a new cable route, a new RCBO in the consumer unit, and all the associated work in what is classified as a special location under wiring regulations.

Pricing

Shower replacements are priced at £90 to £180+VAT plus the cost of the shower unit if I am supplying it. Brand new electric shower installations start from £365+VAT. Every price is fixed. If you already have a shower unit I will install it. If you need me to supply one I will recommend an appropriate unit and include it in the price.

What to Watch Out For

Electric showers in bathrooms are subject to bathroom zone regulations. The shower unit itself must be positioned outside the zones where direct water spray is likely. Cable routing through the bathroom must comply with the relevant requirements for special locations. This is one of the areas where DIY work or work carried out by someone who is not a qualified electrician most commonly goes wrong. I carry out all bathroom electrical work to the current edition of the wiring regulations and notify building control on completion.

How It Works

1.    Call to confirm whether it is a replacement or new install, and whether you have a shower unit already.
2.    I will confirm the price over the phone in most cases, or arrange a quick site visit if needed.
3.    Fixed price confirmed in writing.
4.    Installation completed within the same day.
5.    Electrical Installation Certificate issued and building control notified.

FAQ

How much does an electric shower installation cost?
Shower replacements start at £90+VAT, going up to £180+VAT, plus the cost of the shower if I am supplying it. Brand new installations, where a new circuit needs to be run from the consumer unit, start from £365+VAT.

Can I supply my own shower unit?
Yes. If you have a unit you want fitted I will install it. If you would rather I supply one I will recommend something appropriate and include it in the fixed price.

Do I need to upgrade my consumer unit to install an electric shower?
Not necessarily. Most modern consumer units will have a spare way for a new shower circuit. If the board is full or the existing circuit is not adequate I will flag it and include any additional work in the quote.

Why does bathroom electrical work need to be done by a qualified electrician?
Bathrooms are classified as a special location under the current wiring regulations because of the risk of water and electricity coming into contact. Work must be carried out by a competent person and notified to building control.

Can you replace a shower that is broken the same week?
In most cases yes. Call to discuss availability and I will do my best to get to you quickly, particularly if you are without a working shower.

Do you cover Snodland, Kings Hill, and Larkfield?
Yes. I cover Snodland, Kings Hill, Larkfield, and the wider Tonbridge and Malling area. Call to confirm your postcode.
