One of the most satisfying jobs I do is wiring a garden office that someone has been planning for months. A well-specced electrical installation makes the difference between a building you can actually work in year round and a shed with a trailing extension lead. I have done this type of job across Gravesend, Meopham, and the surrounding area for homeowners putting up log cabins, converting existing outbuildings, and installing purpose-built garden offices.

I am George, I run Eru Electrics Ltd, NICEIC registered and a Which? Trusted Trader with over 200 verified reviews.

What a Proper Garden Office Installation Involves

A new outbuilding electrical installation means running an armoured cable from your main consumer unit in the house to the outbuilding. Inside the building I fit a small sub consumer unit from which the circuits are run. For a typical garden office that is lighting, a ring of double sockets, and sometimes a dedicated circuit for a heater or air conditioning unit. Everything is tested, certified, and notified to building control as part of the job.

What Others Get Wrong

The most common issue I see is a single socket on an extension lead run from the house through a window or under a door, which is not a safe permanent solution and will not pass any future inspection. I also regularly see outbuilding wiring done without a sub consumer unit, which means there is no protection local to the building and no way to safely isolate the supply. A proper installation takes one day and is done correctly from the start.

Pricing. No Surprises.

Garden office and outbuilding electrical installations start from £725+VAT for a completely new install. The final price depends on the distance from the main consumer unit, the number of circuits needed inside the building, and whether cable burial is required. Every quote is fixed upfront.

How It Works

1.    Call to discuss the building and how it will be used.
2.    Site visit to plan the cable route and agree the scope.
3.    Fixed price quote emailed within 48 hours.
4.    Full installation completed within the same day in most cases.
5.    Testing, certification, and building control notification included.

FAQ

How much does it cost to wire a garden office?
New garden office and outbuilding installations start from £725+VAT. The final price depends on the distance from the main house, the number of circuits needed, and whether the cable is being buried.

Does the cable need to be buried underground?
Burying the armoured cable is the neatest and most permanent solution and is what I would normally recommend where the garden layout allows. Where burial is not practical the cable can be run along a fence line.

Will the installation be certified?
Yes. Every outbuilding electrical installation is a notifiable job under Part P. I carry out a full test, issue an Electrical Installation Certificate, and notify building control as part of the price.

Can I add outdoor sockets or exterior lighting at the same time?
Yes, and I would recommend thinking about this before the job rather than after. Adding sockets or lighting at installation stage is straightforward. Retrofitting them later means additional cable runs.

What if the outbuilding already has some wiring?
If there is existing wiring in the building I will inspect it before quoting. Depending on its age and condition it may be reusable, or it may need replacing as part of the new installation.

Do you cover Gravesend and the surrounding villages?
Yes. I cover Gravesend, Meopham, Longfield, Northfleet, and the surrounding Gravesham area. Call to confirm your postcode.

If you are having a garden office or outbuilding wired in Gravesend, Meopham, or Longfield, give me a call and we will arrange a time to look at the cable route and talk through what you need. The quote is fixed, the work is certified, and I will make sure the installation is designed around how you will actually use the space.
