Most of the EV charger installs I carry out in Gillingham and Medway are for homeowners who have just taken delivery of their first electric car and realised that plugging into a standard socket overnight is not a long term solution. A dedicated 7kW home charger will fully charge most electric vehicles in three to four hours. A three pin plug takes three times as long and is not designed for that kind of sustained overnight load.
I am George, I run Eru Electrics Ltd, and I have been installing EV chargers across Medway and North Kent for several years. I am NICEIC registered and a Which? Trusted Trader with over 200 verified reviews. Every installation is priced as a fixed job upfront. No day rate, no surprises.
A home EV charger installation means running a dedicated circuit from your consumer unit to wherever the charger is being mounted, usually the front of the house, the garage, or the side wall nearest the driveway. The charger connects to an app so you can schedule charging to take advantage of off peak electricity tariffs, track energy usage, and in some cases share load with other home appliances.
Before anything is priced, I will look at your consumer unit to confirm there is capacity for the additional circuit. Most modern boards have space. Older boards without a spare way may need a small sub board, which I will flag in the quote rather than discover on the day. The full installation is typically completed within the same day.
Not every electrician installing EV chargers is qualified to sign off the work and notify building control. As an NICEIC registered electrician, every installation I carry out is notified under Part P and comes with an Electrical Installation Certificate. That matters for your home insurance and when you come to sell.
Some installers also overlook the cable route and pull cables along the outside of the building rather than routing them neatly through the loft or wall. I take time to plan the route properly so the finished job looks clean.
EV charger installation in Gillingham and Medway is priced at £940 to £2,500+VAT depending on the complexity of the cable route and the type of charger being fitted. Every quote is fixed. The price confirmed before we start is the price on the invoice. Everything is included: all materials, cable, the charger unit where supplied by us, installation, app setup, Electrical Installation Certificate, and building control notification.

How much does an EV charger installation cost?
Our EV charger installations are priced at £940 to £2,500+VAT depending on the cable route and charger type. Every quote is fixed upfront so the price you are given is the price on the invoice, with nothing added on the day.
Do I need to buy the charger myself or can you supply it?
Either works. If you already have a charger I will install it. If you want me to supply one I can recommend and price a unit as part of the job.
Will my consumer unit need upgrading first?
Most modern consumer units have capacity for an additional EV charger circuit. If yours does not, I will flag it when I assess the board and include any additional work in the quote before we agree anything.
Does the installation need to be notified to building control?
Yes. EV charger installation is notifiable work under Part P. As an NICEIC registered electrician I handle the notification as part of the job and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate.
Can I charge overnight using off peak tariffs?
Yes. The chargers we install connect to an app that lets you schedule charging around your electricity tariff. If you are on a time of use tariff like Octopus Go, setting a charging window overnight can significantly reduce your running costs.
How long does the installation take?
Most home EV charger installations are completed within the same day. More complex cable routes may take longer, which I will flag in advance.
