Condensation is a very common issue in many houses in the Kent. Not just very old ones, it happens even to some that were built even 10-20 years ago. The reasons for this vary and only with a survey from a professional you will be able to pin all the reason for it, but very common one is the difference in air temperature around your windows, the warm air inside your house comes in contact with the colder air outside through the glass and as a result the air liquafies causing condensation, and in time, mould.
One way to significantly improve this situation is by installing a Positive Input Ventilation unit (PIV). Something I have done in many of my client’s homes in North Kent.
By boosting the air circulation in your property it helps by maintaining optimal humidity levels which will reduce moisture build up keeping your walls and furniture mould free.
But as we will see bellow a PIV unit has some more benefits that just circulating the air inside your home.

A Positive Input Ventilation unit will improve the air quality inside your home. Positioned, usually, inside the loft it will supply your house with filtered and fresh air helping to reduce the amount of allergens, dust and other harmful particles significantly improving the living condition of people with respiratory issues.
Other than creating a healthier living environment, a PIV unit it will also help with by lowing maintenance costs. By being a significant factor against damp and condensation it will protect your walls from needing expensive mould treatments and keep wooden floors and surfaces from rotting.

PIVs are also very easy and quick to install by a professional. Most of my installations don’t take more than a couple of hours and with the majority of work taking place inside your loft there is very little disruption to your every day life.
They also need minimal maintenance. Following the initial programming after installing it, the only thing you need to do to keep it in good working order is changing the filters now and again which you can order online.

Please note that results vary from property to property. Size, level of insulation, glazing and the general area are some of the factors that will a significant role in this. Nevertheless, they remain a very good addition against built up of mould and condensation in your North Kent property.
