In a few days’ time schools will break for their usual October half term. I remember as a student that I didn’t love school very much, how much I was looking forward to those breaks.
Having a six year old son, this is also an opportunity to spend some quality family time, because in a blink of an eye he will be an adult starting his own life.
Being in the construction industry most of my adult life I have seen plenty of burnt out tradespeople whose work keeps them so busy that they have no real connection with their own children and this not because they are bad parents.
I believe that a big part of the problem is that they are selling their services too cheap. A self employed person when he goes on holiday, doesn’t have any income for that period of time, which means that this ‘loss of income’ has to be covered during the working days.
So, while you may think that I may be not as cheap as someone else remember that, apart from all of those ongoing running costs, one of the main reasons is holidays! Not to a fancy luxury island but for some quality family time. I want to be present for my son’s upbringing like every caring parent.
